Eagle Ski Club Talk – A ski traverse of the Antarctic Peninsula by Phil Wickens

Skiers pulling sledges near a crevasse

Booking Essential – see below

In January this year a group of six skiers traversed over 200km along  the central spine of the Antarctic Peninsula. They were the first and only people to do so on ski since Wally Herbert’s first traverse in 1957 when he used dog teams. Phil will be talking about this expedition and some of the other ascents he has made in Antarctica. Phil’s photos are always stunning and his knowledge and passion for the Antarctic is huge, so this will be a very memorable evening.

The lectures are given by members of the ESC but are open to anyone with a love of the mountains – there’s no need to be a member of any club. This is the third year we’ve organised the lectures, bringing speakers from across Britain and France so that we get the opportunity to share in their adventures and get inspiration for our own. These events are also about meeting new people as well as old friends, and exchanging information and gear.

For anyone wanting to get into ski touring the Bring and Buy part of the evening is a good way of getting started with second hand gear. I know people are looking for touring set ups and boots, so do bring your spare stuff along as well as any budding mountaineers you come across.
